NATURAL RESOURCES |
Going by the targets set by this Department in our LEEDS I document and the progress report of this Local Government one can say with all assurances that the Agriculture and Natural Resources Department is doing all within its capability to achieve set targets as much as possible.
This the department has been doing by embarking on various agricultural activities as enunciated below:
a. Arable Crop Production
b. Tree crop Production
c. Livestock Production
d. Others.
The department in conjunction with farmers in the Local Government Area have engaged in planting of Arable Crops such as: Maize, Cassava and

| ARABLE CROP PRODUCTION |
| Maize Production:- Maize is largely produced by farmers twice a year in Ifedayo Local Government with an average production rate of 226,400 tones/year.
Cassava Production:- Cassava is also cultivated in Ifedayo Local Government at an average of 240,000 tones/year.
Yam Production:- Yam is produced on the average of 65,500 tones/year by farmers in Ifedayo Local Government.
Other Arable crops produced are Okro, Mellon, Vegetable,
Legumes and Cereal Crops. |
| TREE CROP PRODUCTION |
Tree Crops production are widely cultivated in Ifedayo Local Government. The major ones are Kolanut, Cocoa, Oil palm, Plantain, Cashew, Peer, Coffee & Citrus.
Kolanut: Kolanut produced in the Local Government Area up to an average of 3150 tones/year.
Cocoa: Is widely produced at an average of 3000 tones/year.
Oil Palm: There are two products from Oil palm production;
(a) Palm Oi;-1,000,000 litres/year
(b) Palm Kernel-13,500 tones/year.
Plantain: Plantain is produced at the rate of 234 tonnes per year. |
| LIVESTOCK PRODUCTION |
| Livestock production is majority produced extensively. The livestock usually produced are, chicken, goat, sheep, rabbit, pig, snails e.t.c.
Chicken: Nearly all household in Ifedayo Local Government rear chicken bringing the population of chicken to about 80,000 birds.
Goat: The goat reared is at a population of 25,000.
Sheep: Sheep produced have reached a population of 16,000 sheep.
Pig: The population of pig in Ifedayo Local Government is 6,000 pigs.
Rabbit: Rabbit population is an average of 3,000 rabbits.
Snail: The snail population in Ifedayo Local Government is about 3,000 snails. |
| There are other areas of Agriculture which include: Timber, Fishery e.t.c.
i. Timber: Ifedayo Local Government is surrounded by forest trees therefore there is high population of timber trees with an average of 2.6million tones/year
ii. Fishery: Fishery is not widely engaged in, in this Local Government but there are two fish ponds in commercial/private practice.
iii. The Local Government through the agric and natural resources department is encouraging bee-keeping in the Local Government Area. |
